CM showers sops to physically challenged
National centre for disability sports stadium to be set up in 23 acres at Visakhapatnam:CM
AMARAVATI: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today announced several sops to physically challenged on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Participating as chief guest at International day of Persons with Disabilities organized at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada today, the Chief Minister announced free travel facility for physically challenged in RTC services, nomination of one physically challenged representative in local bodies, corporations and public sector enterprises, implementation of financial subsidies on par with SC,ST and BC and Minorities, Opportunities in sports through SAAP, Allotment of ground floor for physically challenged in housing projects and setting up of a degree college for hearing impaired at Bapatla, pension distribution for physically challenged students in residential colleges and hostels and construction of a Divyang Bhavan in Amaravati.
Addressing the meeting the Chief Minister said that the NDA government committed to safeguard the interests of Physically challenged and making efforts for their economic development. He said the pensions to physically challenged were increased to Rs 6000 per month benefiting 7.68 lakh physically challenged persons by spending Rs 471 crore per month. He said special recruitment drive period was extended to fill backlog posts, and distributing 1800 two wheelers and 13,935 hearing aids this year. The state government filled 2,260 special education teacher posts through mega DSC and set up ten schools for deaf and dumb students. He announced national centre for disability sports stadium 23 acres in Visakhapatnam.
Citing the example of physically challenged achievers in sports discipline, the Chief Minister said Karunakumari, Ajay Kumar Reddy, Deepika proved that disability is not an hurdle to excel in sports. He said Karunakumari a visually challenged girl excelled in international cricket world cup final. Likewise Ajaykumar Reddy was instrumental in winning T20 world cup. Deepika also excelled both in cricket and as a Para athlete.
