The P4 initiative launched by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for the upliftment of the underprivileged is receiving overwhelming response. Inspired by the Chief Minister’s call, members of the affluent class are stepping forward to partner in the P4 program and support the poor. Many industrialists have already become role models and are extending aid to deserving families. In a remarkable development, an industrialist from Guntur district has come forward to construct a lift irrigation project entirely with his own funds.
Farmers in Kakumanu mandal of Guntur district have been facing irrigation issues. Although water is available from the Kommamuru canal, the tail-end areas have been struggling to receive sufficient water. Building a lift in this region would resolve these difficulties. Heeding the CM’s call through the P4 initiative, Mr. Karumanchi Prasad, the head of Prasad Seeds, stepped forward to help. The water scarcity affecting farmers in his native village deeply moved the management of the leading seed company, Prasad Seeds. Chairman K Prasad met the Chief Minister and expressed his willingness to partner with the government to build the lift irrigation project. He pledged a donation of Rs. 10 crore for the Kommamuru Lift Irrigation Scheme. He expressed hope that this initiative would resolve irrigation issues not only in his native village Kakumanu but also in the surrounding areas.
*Prasad’s Generosity is an Inspiration for Many*
The Chief Minister instructed Water Resources Department officials to prepare a DPR (Detailed Project Report) for the Kommamuru Lift Irrigation Scheme as suggested by Karumanchi Prasad and to grant necessary approvals swiftly. He directed that the construction be initiated with proper coordination and using the financial aid provided by Prasad. The Chief Minister appreciated Prasad for generously stepping up to help farmers in his native place. CM Chandrababu Naidu expressed satisfaction that various sections of society are coming forward in alignment with the very spirit and purpose of the P4 initiative he had envisioned.
*Four Decades in the Seeds Business*
Karumanchi Prasad, hailing from Kakumanu village in the Prattipadu constituency of Guntur district, has been in the seed business for over four decades. Since 1995, he has been contributing to developmental activities in the region. Notably, he provided financial support for the completion of the Pedanandipadu Lift Scheme in 1995.
*Details of Kommamuru Lift:*
For years, the last 10 kilometers of land along the 43-kilometer-long Kommamuru canal have not received adequate irrigation. To address this, a lift irrigation system needs to be constructed near Kakumanu on the Kommamuru canal. If implemented, the project will supply abundant water to around 5,315 acres in the villages of Kakumanu, BK Palem, Appapuram, Garikapadu, and Kondapaturu. It will also resolve the drinking water issues in Kakumanu mandal. The project involves developing a canal with a width of 100 feet to carry 100 cusecs of water across the 10-kilometer tail-end stretch. With Prasad coming forward to contribute personally, the government will also allocate necessary funds to complete the project.
