Amaravati, December 19:Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand directed the secretaries to prepare action plans from now itself, department-wise and district-wise, to successfully conduct the Godavari Pushkarams, which will be held for 12 days from June 26 to July 7, 2027. A meeting of the secretaries' committee constituted by the government on the Godavari Pushkarams was held on Friday at the State Secretariat under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary. Speaking on the occasion, he said that since this is the first preliminary meeting regarding the preparatory arrangements for the Godavari Pushkarams, proper plans should be prepared from now on. He informed that the government has constituted a group of ministers and a group of secretaries at the state level to oversee the arrangements for the Godavari Pushkarams, and has also appointed State Medical and Health Commissioner G. Veerapandian as the special officer.He instructed the collectors to form district committees with officials from the respective departments and take measures to monitor the works regularly. He said that micro-plans should be prepared from now itself, district-wise, bathing ghat-wise, and department-wise, regarding the arrangements to be undertaken.He directed the collectors to prepare and submit detailed DPRs on aspects such as identifying bathing ghats, drinking water, sanitation, transportation, medical camps, security, crowd management, traffic management and coordination of emergency services. He noted that compared to the previous Pushkarams, the population has increased and media,Social media coverage has also expanded.The Chief Secretary instructed that due to factors such as increased broadcasting and technology, improved transportation facilities,and most importantly,the growing devotional sentiments among the people,there is a possibility of twice the number of devotees attending the Pushkarams in 2027.He directed that proper arrangements should be made accordingly.
Chief Secretary Vijayanand said that the Godavari river enters our state in Alluri Sitarama Raju district and flows through Eluru, East Godavari, Kakinada, West Godavari, and Ambedkar Konaseema districts.He stated that adequate arrangements need to be made for devotees to take holy dips at various bathing ghats in these six districts.He said that the Endowments, Irrigation,Revenue, Police,R&B,Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development,Transco,Fisheries,Fire Services, APSRTC, Railways,Tourism, Information and Public Relations,Disaster Management and other departments must work in coordination to make the Godavari Pushkarams a success.He instructed that appropriate technology should be prepared through IT and RTGS for continuous monitoring of crowds during the upcoming Godavari Pushkarams.
Chief Secretary Vijayanand specifically directed the officials to prepare suitable plans for effective crowd management on the dates when a large number of devotees are expected.CS instructed the secretaries to prepare action plans for the Godavari Pushkaram, taking into account the experiences from this year's Maha Kumbh Mela on the Ganges River in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, and the experiences from the previous Godavari Pushkaram.He directed them to estimate the dates on which a large number of devotees are expected and to make arrangements on a scale double the estimated number.
Since Rajamahendravaram will be the main center for the Godavari Pushkaram, he said that plans should be prepared to identify various locations, similar to those established during the Maha Kumbh Mela, and set up temporary tent cities to provide temporary accommodation for a large number of devotees. Regarding the Godavari Pushkaram arrangements, Chief Secretary Vijayanand instructed the collectors to appoint a Joint Collector-level officer as the special in-charge in each district and to prepare a detailed project report for each district.
In this meeting,Secretary Endowments Hari Jawaharlal gave a presentation on the arrangements for the Godavari Pushkarams, stating that the Godavari Pushkarams are held when Jupiter enters the Leo zodiac sign, and accordingly, the government has already announced that the Godavari Pushkarams will be held for 12 days from 2027 June 26 to July 7, 2027.He said that the Godavari Pushkarams are considered the main Kumbh Mela of South India. He explained that during the Pushkarams, devotees from both Telugu states, as well as from across the country, participate, taking holy dips in the Godavari river and performing rituals and ancestral rites.He said that the Godavari river enters the state at Gundala in Alluri Sitarama Raju district, and the first bathing ghat is located there.He stated that a logo needs to be designed for the Godavari Pushkarams, and entries will soon be invited from students and the public to select a suitable logo.He explained that there are 36 bathing ghats in Category A, 48 in Category B, and 285 in Category C along the Godavari river, and that during the last Godavari Pushkarams 2,529 various works were undertaken at a cost of Rs. 1412 crore.
Godavari Pushkaram Special Officer and Health and Medical Department Commissioner G. Veerapandian, while giving a presentation on the Pushkaram arrangements, said that a meeting has already been held with the district collectors.He stated that 4.86 crore devotees took a holy dip in the Godavari River during the 2015 Godavari Pushkaram, and that double the number, between 9 and 10 crore people, are expected for the upcoming Pushkaram, and that appropriate arrangements are being made accordingly.He mentioned that while 1927 buses and 400 trains were arranged for the devotees during the 2015 Pushkaram, a plan is being prepared to arrange more than double that number this time.He added that Collectors were instructed to prepare district-wise plans.He also advised that the secretaries of the concerned departments should immediately issue appropriate instructions to their subordinate officers.
The meeting was attended by Endowments Department Commissioner Ramachandra Mohan, RTGS CEO Prakhar Jain, Water Resources Department CE Seshu Babu, and other officials.Also participating virtually were Principal Secretaries S. Suresh Kumar, Shashi Bhushan Kumar, RTC MD Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, ADG Law and Order Madhusudan Reddy, Director I&PR K.S.Viswanathan, APTDC MD Amrapali, other departmental secretaries and officials, and the Collectors of six districts.
