Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) is taking concrete measures for effective implementation of energy efficiency activities that helps to address climate change
- TTD would like to showcase Devasthanam as most energy efficient temple across the World, says executive officer of TTD , A V Dharma Reddy
- TTD is highly energy conscious temple and strongly believes in pro-environmental activities
- TTD contemplates to replace 118 existing pump sets with energy efficient pump sets in coordination with APSECM/ APSEEDCO
- Energy efficiency measures in water pumping stations of TTD would save 4.5 MU per annum worth of of Rs. 3.17 crore with return on investment by around 12 months
- 1000 LED tube lights and 400 fans energy efficient Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) fans installed in Sri Venkateswara Arts College
In order to provide the benefits of energy efficiency and energy conservation to all its devotees, the world famous devotional centre Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) has initiated several energy efficiency programs in its establishments and water pumping stations in particular with an aim to make TTD the best energy efficient pilgrim destination across the globe
The TTD is taking concrete measures towards effective implementation of energy efficiency activities that help to address climate change and result in energy savings and reduction of electricity bills to TTD as well. The TTD is spending around Rs.40 Crore per annum towards electricity bill and has planned to reduce the energy expenditure by Rs.4 to 5 Crs in a phased manner by implementing energy conservation and energy efficiency measures including replacement of old high capacity pumps with energy efficient pump sets.
During a review meeting on energy efficiency project in water pumping stations of TTD with AP State Energy Conservation Mission(APSECM), Energy department and AP State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation Limited(APSEEDCO), a joint venture of AP Power utilities and TTD officials, the Executive Officer of TTD, A V Dharma Reddy said that the TTD has contemplated to replace 118 existing pump sets with energy efficient pump sets in coordination with APSECM/ APSEEDCO and is likely to become that only pilgrim destination in the country which is planning to implement energy efficiency water pumping program at such a large scale.
TTD is a highly energy conscious temple and strongly believes in pro-environmental activities for which full focus has been laid on star labelled appliances and adoption of energy efficient technologies. The TTD’s initiatives to go with energy efficiency would promote eco-friendly solutions that will help our society and nature as well. We would like to make TTD as the top pilgrim destination in the energy efficiency front not only in the country but also across the world” EO TTD said.
EO Dharma Reddy said that “TTD is determined to provide best quality services to devotees with an objective to improve the existing facilities to devotees keeping the requirements of the future in mind and also provide the benefits of energy efficiency measures to all the devotees”.
During the meeting, senior officers of APSEEDCO said that APSEEDCO has conducted an investment grade energy audit (IGEA) in pumping stations of TTD and proposed to replace around 118 existing pump-sets with energy efficient pump-sets with an investment of around Rs. 3.18 crore. It is expected to save 4.5 MU per annum worth of monetary savings of Rs. 3.17 crore with return on investment by around 12 months. APSEEDCO has evaluated the tenders and submitted them to TTD for execution of energy efficiency pump-sets project, officials of APSEEDCO said.
Responding to officials, the executive officer of TTD said that the project proposal has been reviewed and the same would be put up to the TTD board for approval. The EO/TTD has appreciated the efforts of the energy department for ensuring high quality and reliable 24X7 Power supply to the Devasthanam which helps for providing better services to the devotees.
APSECM officials said that energy efficiency demonstration projects in TTD in the areas of LED lighting appliances, Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) fans were implemented with support of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), GoI. In the first phase, APSECM has implemented energy efficiency measures in Sri Venkateswara Arts College and replaced 1000 existing tube lights with LED tube lights and 400 fans with energy efficient Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) fans. The project is expected to result in energy savings of 1.64 lakh units per annum.
In the second phase, the TTD has entered into agreement with AP State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation Limited (APSEEDCO), a joint venture of AP Power Utilities, for replacement of the existing 5,000 ceiling fans of TTD Buildings with Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) fans which are highly energy efficient and could save around 0.88 Million Units per annum with Rs.62 lakh monetary savings and payback of just 2 years 2 months for the investments. The energy efficient appliances were supplied to TTD and the installation is about to start.
TTD Chief Engineer D Nageswara Rao, SE Jagadeswara Reddy, SE (Electrical), Venkateswarlu ,Ravishankar Reddy/EC cell TTD and other senior officials of APSECM & APSEEDCO participated in the meeting.
