Vijayawada, September 10: With the aim of transforming the Guntur market yard into Asia’s largest energy-efficient chili trading hub and a prominent export center, the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL-MoP, GoI) plans to partner with the Andhra Pradesh government and the AP Agricultural Marketing Department to implement energy efficiency measures not only in Guntur but also in some other key market yards in the State.
The State government aims to upgrade the services of Guntur Chilli Yard to global standards, ensuring its continued prominence in the spice commerce world. Guntur Chilli Yard, Asia’s largest dried red chilli market, is a key producer and exporter of chilli varieties worldwide.
As the market yards, crucial hubs for agricultural trade, heavily use energy for lighting, cooling, processing, and logistics, the State government aims to make them energy-efficient, offering far-reaching benefits for farmers, the environment, the economy, and society, said Chiranjeevi Choudary, Principal Secretary, Marketing and Co. The state government intends to boost Guntur Sannam Chilli exports from Rs 3,502 crore to Rs 4,661 crore by 2025 via a District Export Action Plan (DEAP), with the goal of turning Guntur into a dynamic export center for remarkable growth. Additionally, the state administration is promoting the export of turmeric and cotton yarn, broadening the range of products contributing to their growing export aspirations.
Principal Secretary Chiranjeevi Choudary explained the state government’s efforts for farmers’ welfare and thanked Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and Agriculture Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy for their pioneering initiatives and support to the department.
The Agricultural Marketing Department has achieved significant development, including 105 Rythu Bazars, with 4 more built and 35 in progress. Market yard improvements include 106 projects worth Rs 100.92 Crore. Moreover, 361 Multi-Purpose Facilitation Centers (Godowns) exist, with 640 more under construction, totaling Rs 160.85 Crore in investments.
e-NAM shines in Andhra Pradesh with AMC Guntur as the premier trading hub, totaling Rs 31,161.7 Crore and 27.93 LMT. AMC Adoni leads in bids received, with 1.05 Crore bids for 11.97 Lakh lots, benefitting farmers. Across 33 markets, e-NAM facilitates trade at Rs 43,248 Crore (67.72 Lakh MT). With 16 Assaying labs ensuring quality, online payments to farmers have surged to Rs 84.76 Crore for 14,650 MT of produce.
A historic milestone:
The Rs 3000 Crore Price Stabilization Fund (PSF) intervenes in markets below Minimum Support Price (MSP). MSPs for six critical crops championed: Chillies at Rs 7000/- per quintal, Turmeric at Rs 6850/- per quintal, Onion at Rs 770/- per quintal, Minor Millets at Rs 2500/- per quintal, Banana at Rs 800/- per quintal, and Sweet Orange at Rs 1400/- per quintal.
Andhra Pradesh demonstrates inclusivity with 108 women chairpersons leading 218 AMCs. Market committees now ensure 50 percent representation for women and 50 percent for SC/ST/BC/Minorities, emphasizing equitable governance. MLAs also hold honorary chairpersonship of Market Committees.
The State also leads the way with restructured Agricultural Market Committees aligned with Assembly Constituencies, fostering improved governance. The state’s e-Farmarket initiative connects farmers and traders across the nation, providing comprehensive agricultural and horticultural trade solutions
