Utmost priority to accelerate thermal generation to meet the rising energy demand

Stating that the energy demand is expected to cross 250 Million units in a day in the coming months which will be the highest demand, K V N Chakradhar Babu, Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation told APGENCO officials to make a plan and put all out efforts from GENCO side to accelerate the thermal generation to meet the increasing energy demand in the summer.
Assuming the charge on Friday as MD APGENCO and JMD APTRANSCO in Vidyut Soudha in Vijayawada, Chakradhar babu reviewed the developments of APGENCO projects and said that he would focus on modernization of thermal power plants and priority would also be given to optimization of power generation to meet the increasing energy demand. APGENCO would take all necessary steps to prevent any problems in power generation including supply of coal from coal fields. He said that rising energy demand is a very good sign which indicates increase in economic activity of the State, he said.
“Ensuring efficient generation of power at better heat rate and optimization of fuel resources will be part of our priorities. We will make efforts to adopt the best practices, improve operational efficiency and reduce emissions,” he said. He has also disclosed that APGENCO will put all out efforts to be the best organization at national level in power generation and maintaining highest Plant Load Factor (PLF).
The Managing Director further said that APGENCO would work keeping in mind the objective of the State government to provide 24X7 quality, reliable and cost effective power supply through optimized power generation. He also said that, all the staff of APGENCO should work together, in order to meet the objective of the State government to provide 9 hours power supply to Agriculture in day time by enhancing thermal generation capacities.
“In order to balance the grid, and to meet the rising demand, there is an immediate need for accelerating thermal generation capacities. Utmost priory should be given for completion of the on-going thermal power generation projects with the support of energy dept and government. Fortunately we have Sri K Vijayanand as special chief Secretary Energy who is heading the sector with vast experience over a decade on thermal and other areas of power sector, which will help us in meeting the objectives of APGENCO”, he said.
“I am very contented to again do service in the power sector. Since the state government is fully supporting power utilities, we should be committed to strengthen and sustain APGENCO with the support of stakeholders including associations and each and every employee community in the organization”, he said.
He thanked Chief Minister Y S JaganMohan Reddy, Energy Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy for assigning the responsibility as Managing Director of APGENCO. He also thanked Chief Secretary K S Jawahar Reddy and Special Chief Secretary energy K Vijayanand.
GENCO officials explained that Sri Damodara Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station (SDSTPS) Stage-II (1x800MW) is operational now and will contribute to meet the ongoing summer demand. Another 800 MW unit at Dr. Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Station (Dr.NTTPS) will be operational in this year. APGENCO is contributing 40 to 45 percent of the grid demand.
APGENCO is also establishing 12 Hydro Electric units of 80 MW capacities at Polavaram, the first 7 units of which are likely to be commissioned in the FY 2024-25 and the remaining units in FY 2025-26. As part of capacity addition in green energy, APGENCO is planning to install 2 additional units of 115 MW each at Lower Sileru and expected to generate the power by July 2024.
He has earlier worked in various capacities as Joint Collector of Srikakulam, Joint Managing Director Finance in APTRANSCO, District collector and Magistrate of Nellore etc. Babu has done remarkable work in various capacities including handling two waves of Covid-19 and multiple cyclones. He has taken some key steps in water management. He has received National e-Governance Award, Award for Excellence in Public Administration, the National Award for the Best District in the implementation of PM Kisan Yojana, the National Award for the Best District in PMAGY’s implementation, and the National Award for Aadarsh Panchayats etc.
Recently, he has received prestigious Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) award from Union Power Minister in the cadre of district magistrate and Collector of Nellore for modernizing the Pennar Delta system by constructing Nellore Barrage and Sangam Barrages and for implementing other modernization works.
