Amaravati, May 21,2025: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu described yoga as a great gift that India has offered to the world and underscored the need to make yoga a part of everyone’s daily life. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for earning yoga global recognition and announced that the Government of Andhra Pradesh will host grand International Yoga Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam on June 21, which PM Modi is expected to attend.
A special campaign titled YogAndhra-2025 will be held for one month starting today. On June 21, a mega event involving 5 lakh people will take place from RK Beach to Bhogapuram. CM Chandrababu Naidu also launched the official YogAndhra website on the occasion.
*PM Modi’s Vision Brought Yoga Global Recognition*
Yoga is India’s ancient legacy and a vital part of Indian lifestyle. It was Prime Minister Modi who elevated yoga to global prominence. In the past, scholars from across the world came to India to learn, but invasions disrupted this cultural continuity. Thanks to PM Modi, the world has once again come to appreciate the value of yoga.
In December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to observe International Yoga Day globally. Yoga transcends region, religion, or boundaries — it is a universal practice that promotes well-being and balance in life. In today’s fast-paced world, where people are stressed by technology and life has become mechanical, yoga is the only path to inner peace. With PM Modi’s determination and leadership, this movement has gained momentum, and it is everyone’s responsibility to take it forward.
*A New Chapter in Andhra Pradesh's History*
We will conduct YogAndhra-2025 for a full month, not as a photo-op or symbolic event, but as a genuine mass movement to promote awareness and practice of yoga. The main event on June 21 will see 5 lakh people practicing yoga from 7 AM to 8 AM along the coast from RK Beach to Bhogapuram. Simultaneously, arrangements are being made to ensure the participation of at least 2 crore people across the state.
We aim to train 10 lakh individuals in yoga and issue them certificates. Organising such a large-scale yoga session by the sea is a rare opportunity. This picturesque event, set in the lap of nature, will be etched in public memory.
*Raising Public Awareness on Yoga*
As PM Modi is attending the Yoga Day celebrations, a team of ministers led by Minister Nara Lokesh will oversee preparations. Volunteers from universities, public and private organizations, women, the elderly, police personnel, and employees will all be encouraged to participate, and certificates will be issued to them as well.
We are rolling out yoga training programs from cities to villages. Andhra Pradesh has 21 temples generating more than ₹5 crore in annual revenue. Yoga awareness programs will be conducted in over 100 tourism and spiritual destinations, including Amaravati Buddha Stupa, Lepakshi, Gandikota, Araku, Lambasingi, Konaseema, and the Akhanda Godavari region.
"As PM Modi promotes yoga globally, it is our responsibility to do the same. Electronic, print, and social media must proactively support the campaign with quality content, articles, and videos," CM noted.
We will partner with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga to train 2,000 yoga instructors, including 2,000 school teachers. Yoga-related content will be incorporated into school syllabi, and students will receive daily one-hour yoga training once schools reopen. Volunteers who successfully spread awareness about yoga will get the opportunity to attend the PM’s event on June 21.
*Health is True Wealth*
Our vision for Swarnandhra-2047 is a state where everyone enjoys good health, wealth, and happiness. Yoga offers a perfect solution to many of today’s challenges. Everyone should dedicate one hour daily for pranayama, asanas, and meditation to relieve stress and enhance productivity.
Organisations like Art of Living, Isha Foundation, Patanjali, and Brahma Kumaris have been promoting yoga nationwide. I have personally associated with these organizations for many years. In the past, I organised yoga sessions for IAS, IPS officers, and ministers with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar of Art of Living and Sadhguru Vasudev of Isha. The Brahma Kumaris have also established centers around the world, CM Chandrababu recalled.
Minister Satyakumar and several senior officials were present at the media briefing.
