Visakhapatnam: Many complaints of people using political connections to grab lands came up during the "Dial Your CP" Spandana programme on Wednesday.
During the programme, complainants said various political parties within the limits of Visakhapatnam are grabbing disputed lands using their muscle power. Some are claiming rented houses as their own.
Responding to these complaints, Additional DGP and commissioner of police Dr. A. Ravi Shankar assured that strict action will be taken in these cases under the AP Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Act, 1982. The land grabbers will be arrested under the Preventive Detention Act, he stated.
Dr. Ravi Shankar stated that Visakhapatnam police will take stricter action in case the victims of land grabbing are single women, widows, elderly people, parents of faraway children and single families with no support.
In a statement, the CP acknowledged that encroachers of rented houses are creating fake documents before laying claims to the house. He warned police, advocates, retired MROs, VROs and other government employees involved in helping criminals grab lands will be dealt with strictly.
