Hyderabad: A day after holding a meeting with party leaders at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday to discuss a broad range of issues, including party candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has convened a Cabinet meeting on May 18 to discuss welfare schemes.

This will be the first Cabinet meeting in the newly inaugurated Secretariat building. The Cabinet meeting comes after a two-month gap, with the last one conducted on March 9 at the CM's official residence, Pragathi Bhavan. The Cabinet meeting is expected to focus on expediting the second phase of the Dalit Bandhu scheme, the sheep distribution programme, the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, and the distribution of pattas for podu lands, all of which have been put on pause mode for a long time.

The BRS government will complete nine years in office on June 2, and the Cabinet is expected to discuss the government's achievements over the last nine years, as well as an action plan for taking its achievements in implementing welfare schemes and development programmes to the people in the run-up to the Assembly elections, which are only five months away.

The government has also decided to hold the Telangana State formation decennial celebrations on a grand scale for 21 days beginning June 2, and the Cabinet is expected to discuss the modalities to be adopted for these celebrations.
