Hyderabad: With River Musi in spate, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy reviewed the flood situation on Saturday and directed officials to shift residents from low-lying areas along the river banks to safer locations.

Incessant rains and heavy inflows into the twin reservoirs of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar prompted officials to open the gates and release water downstream into the city.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to take all necessary precautions in vulnerable areas and provide rehabilitation measures for evacuated families in relief camps.

He also reviewed the evacuation of passengers stranded at the MGBS bus station, which was inundated with floodwater at midnight, and instructed officials to divert buses coming from various areas to alternative routes.

With Dasara and Bathukamma festivities under way, Revanth Reddy directed TGSRTC officials to ensure that passengers travelling through MGBS reach their destinations safely.

Following the IMD forecast of heavy rains for the second consecutive day, the Chief Minister ordered the Police, Traffic, HYDRAA, GHMC and the Electricity Department to remain on high alert.

He further suggested that display boards be installed at all water stagnation points in the city and at locations along the Musi where flood levels are dangerous. Traffic diversions, he said, should be implemented without causing inconvenience to commuters
