HYDERABAD: Delhi and Punjab Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday yet again took on the office of the Governor complaining about how the institution of the Governor was being misused by the BJP government at the Centre.
Kejriwal and Mann were in Hyderabad to meet Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and addressed a press conference along with the Telangana Chief Minister on the subject of the BJP government at the Centre issuing an ordinance taking away powers of the Delhi government to appoint and transfer officials.
Kejriwal speaking on the issue of how the Central government was misusing its powers, said the office of the Governor was also being misused, and turning to Chandrashekar Rao, said, "Like your Governor does not pass your Bills. Under such a system, where is the need for Chief Ministers? Let there just be a PM and 29 Governors", Kejriwal said, to which Chandrashekar Rao nodded in agreement.
Mann said his government too was a target of the state Governor who refused to call for a budget session of the Assembly and after SC ordered that the session must be called for, refused to read the budget speech where the Governor was to say ‘my government’. "Again we had to go to SC and the court ordered that the speech given by the government must be read as it is," Mann said.
Raj Bhavans, he said, "has become BJP officers and Governors have become BJP campaigners. Bills have been held back here, in Punjab, and in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal, Governors have been making things difficult for those state governments."
