Hyderabad: Municipal administration and urban Development (MA&UD) minister K.T. Rama Rao ushered in the New Year by inaugurating the 2.21-kilometr multi-level flyover connecting Kothaguda junction with Kondapur junction, asserting that 11 more SRDP projects would be completed by the end of 2023 and that the city’s development was essential for the state's sustenance.
The Kothaguda flyover is the 34th project completed under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) and would significantly help in addressing traffic and congestion in the bustling IT corridor, Rama Rao stated. Once the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) works are completed by March or April of this year, Hyderabad will be the first city in the country to treat its entire sewage.
“Ramping up the infrastructure in #Hyderabad's Information Technology (IT) corridor, the authorities on #NewYear day threw open another flyover to ease the traffic congestion,” he tweeted after inaugurating the Kothaguda flyover. The minister was supposed to cut the ribbon, but he instead assigned this task to chief engineer (projects) M. Devanand and superintending engineer S. Venkataramana
The flyover missed several deadlines due to a lack of coordination among the Transco and the forest department and delays in land acquisition. The multi-level unidirectional flyover, built at a cost of Rs 263.09 crore by the GHMC, connects Botanical Garden, Kothaguda, and Kondapur junction, relieving traffic congestion at these three crucial intersections in the western part of the city.
Many software firms are located around these intersections, causing massive traffic congestion during peak hours. These three junctions are currently T-intersections with little space between them, and traffic jams are worse during peak hours. Authorities believe that the flyover will provide a 100 per cent traffic solution at the Botanical Garden Junction and Kothaguda Junction, while it is expected that the flyover will relieve 65 percent of traffic problems at Kondapur junction.
Officials said the flyover facilitates traffic from Gachibowli to Kondapur, Allwyn Colony, Miyapur, and other locations, as well as traffic from Gachibowli to Hitec City, Financial District, and other areas.
A unidirectional three-lane underpass near Kothaguda Junction is being built for commuters from Kondapur heading towards Gachibowli. Further, the route from Gachibowli to Miyapur serves as a vital link between the Financial District and the HiTec City area. This route also connects the residential area of Miyapur and its surroundings with the software firms in the Financial District and Hitec City. The main flyover is a five-lane bridge from SLN terminus up to Botanical Garden junction, six lanes from Botanical junction up to Kothaguda junction and three lanes from Kothaguda junction up to Kondapur RTO office (2,216 metres).
