Hyderabad: The holy month of Ramzan will commence from Thursday in the State.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (moon sighting) committee met on Wednesday at its office at M J Market and, after discussion, announced that the new moon was sighted at various places and hence the first ‘roza’ will commence from Thursday
Soon after the announcement was made, hectic activity was witnessed across the city, with people rushing to make last-minute preparations for the ‘taraweeh prayers’ conducted after the Isha prayers at almost all mosques. During the ‘taraweeh’, chapters of the Quran are read by a Hafiz-e-Quran (one who has memorised the Quran), who leads the special prayers in Ramzan.
Special arrangements are made at function halls and private institutions for women to attend the ‘taraweeh prayers’.
The markets were bustling with activity as people ventured out to buy vegetables, groceries and edibles for the preparation of the sehar meal.
