Finance Minister T Harish Rao said Telangana is now exporting fish to other States and countries. The State was importing fish from other parts of the country until Telangana was formed seven years ago, he added.

Speaking after releasing the fishlings into Ranganayaka Sagar located at Chandlapur here on Wednesday, Harish Rao said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s efforts in improving the fish production have improved the lives of the fishermen community.

The Minister along with Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav released fishlings into Ranganayaka Sagar, to mark the beginning of the release of fishlings into water bodies across Telangana.

Hailing the Chief Minister as a visionary, Rao said that the blue revolution in Telangana is changing the lives of people besides providing nutritious food to citizens. Saying that they were releasing 4.19 crore fishlings and 12.94 lakh shrimps into 1,472 water bodies and three reservoirs across Siddipet district this year, the Minister said that the Telangana government has spent Rs 4.87 crore in Siddipet alone.

Animal Husbandry Minister Srinivas Yadav said that they were planning to buy the fish from fishermen directly to put an end to the marketing hurdles. He said that the Telangana State Fishermen Cooperative Societies Federation had designed a plan for marketing the fish and shrimps by purchasing them from fishermen.

Yadav said that they had procured 93 crore fishlings and 20 crore shrimps to release them into water bodies across Telangana this year.

He further assured the fishermen communities to provide society membership to all the eligible persons from fishermen families. Saying that they were giving two-wheelers, autos and mobile outlets to fishermen communities on the subsidized prices, the Animal Husbandry Minister said it would help the fishermen to market the fish. Later in the day, both Ministers released fishlings into Komaticheruvu.
