Hyderabad: As the city prepares for a grand finale of the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities on Tuesday, the atmosphere at Hussain Sagar is already abuzz with excitement on Monday. A day before the final idol immersions, a large number of Ganesh idols were being immersed in the lake. Citizens from across the city reached the water body to catch a glimpse of the immersions.
Though the final immersion day i.e., Tuesday, is traditionally the most spectacular, the day before witnessed a significant number of families and smaller community groups arriving at the lake to immerse their Ganesh idols. Groups of people, from families with children to elderly devotees, thronged the lake to perform the ‘nimajjanam’ rituals to avoid overwhelming crowds expected on the last day.
Idols of all sizes, from small clay figures to mid-sized community idols, were being carried to the lake on vehicles adorned with flowers and colourful lights and loud music.
Meanwhile, in view of the final immersion day, the Hyderabad Police, GHMC along with other departments and NGOs have made elaborate arrangements to ensure the safety of devotees and smooth conduct of the immersion process.
Traffic diversions are already in place around Tank Bund, with dedicated routes for vehicles carrying idols. The police force is out in full strength, managing crowds and maintaining order, while volunteers assisting devotees in completing the immersion in an orderly manner. Surveillance cameras and drone are also monitoring the immersions
