The formidable West Indies team launched their T20 World Cup campaign with an emphatic 5-wicket victory over Papua New Guinea, who displayed commendable skills on the global stage in Guyana on Sunday.
Roston Chase spearheaded the successful chase of a 136-run target with an unbeaten 42 off 27 balls. Although Andre Russell (15*) was at the crease with him, Chase handled the bulk of the task. Brandon King set the tone for the two-time champions with a steady 29-ball 34 at the top of the order.
Papua New Guinea put up a strong fight, making the West Indies work hard for their victory. At one stage, the required run rate climbed to 12, and West Indies had lost half their side, causing some anxiety.
