THULLUR: AP Women’s Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja stated that the realization of Amaravati as the capital was made possible solely by the Indian Constitution. She made these remarks while addressing the state-level Constitution Day summit organized by the Forum for RTI at the Mandadam Farmers' JAC camp.
Speaking as the chief guest, Sailaja emphasized that citizens must cultivate a questioning spirit to safeguard their rights. She described the Right to Information (RTI) Act as a boon to the public. She noted that while there are isolated instances of the act being used for blackmail, the inherent greatness of the law in protecting democracy must be recognized by all.
State RTI Commissioner Prattipati Samuel Jonathan, who attended as a guest of honor, began the proceedings by paying floral tributes to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He highlighted the rights provided by the Constitution and urged the government to show greater initiative in resolving farmers' issues.
The event, presided over by Honorary President Prattipati Chandramohan, also saw the formal swearing-in of the Amaravati Capital Committee office bearers. Kommineni Varalakshmi took the oath as President, accompanied by Rehman as General Secretary, Palakayala Saidulu as Youth President, Shaik Sardar Basha as State General Secretary, and Aluri Umamaheswara Rao as an advisor.
JAC leaders Katta Rajendra, National President Matta Prasad, and other dignitaries participated in the event. Organizers expressed satisfaction with the summit's success in the capital region.
