AP Govt Plans 10 Medical Colleges Under PPP Model in Next Two Financial Years: Minister Satya Kumar

Amaravati, March 4:The coalition government will take steps to operate 10 medical colleges under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model over the next two financial years, State Health Minister Satya Kumar said in the Legislative Assembly while responding to members’ questions.

The Minister stated that a total of 17 government medical colleges were sanctioned in the State. Of these, 11 were approved under NABARD funding, three under the Central Government and three under the SASKI scheme. The total estimated cost for these colleges is ₹8,480 crore.

He alleged that during the previous government’s tenure, only about ₹1,500 crore was spent on the projects. Of that, nearly ₹500 crore was spent on the Pulivendula medical college alone, while the remaining colleges were neglected, reflecting discrimination in fund allocation.

Satya Kumar said that after the coalition government came to power, works worth ₹900 crore have already been undertaken to accelerate the development of medical colleges across the State.

He accused YSRCP leaders of spreading misinformation by claiming that the colleges had already been completed during their tenure. He pointed out that even land acquisition for the proposed medical college in Parvathipuram had not been initiated during the previous administration.

The Minister further criticised the previous government, stating that despite being reduced to just 11 seats after five years of misrule, its leaders continue to issue threats and make baseless claims
