AP promotes PAT scheme to enhance efficient use of energy in industries.: Spl CS K Vijayanand

APSECM conducts regional workshop on the PAT scheme involving Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Odisha.

Vijayawada, 06-03-2024:As part of its endeavor to enhance and promote energy efficiency in the industrial sector through efficient use of energy, reduce energy cost in an effective way, and also lessen greenhouse gas emissions from industries, the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) organized a Regional Workshop on Perform, Achieve & Trade (PAT) scheme, which helps in capacity building of energy managers of industries to enhance their capability for effective utilization of energy in industries.

During the Regional Workshop on the PAT scheme,organized by APSECM in Vijayawada on Wednesday participated by more than 100 participants from the Designated Consumers (Industries) from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Odisha, the Special Chief Secretary Energy, Sri K Vijayanand, who is the chief guest of the program, along with CEO APSECM BAVP Kumara Reddy, K Santosha Rao, CMD/APCPDCL, M Nanda Kishore Reddy, VC&MD, NDEDCAP, M Kamalakar Babu, MD AP Solar power, and Senior Sector Expert of BEE,GoI, Naveen Kumar,inaugurated the workshop and released a booklet on PAT.

Addressing the gathering, the Special Chief Secretary of Energy said that Andhra Pradesh is one of the best states that has framed a robust framework for promoting energy efficiency in industries, including the implementation of PAT scheme, promoting energy-efficient technologies in industries, and conducting decarbonization activities in MSME clusters.

The Special Chief Secretary Energy said that the PAT scheme, which is a market-based compliance mechanism to accelerate improvements in energy efficiency in energy-intensive industries introduced by Union Ministry of Power-led Bureau of Energy Efficiency across the country, yielded impressive results with energy savings of 8.67 MTOE, translating into avoiding about 31 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in PAT Cycle-1, while PAT Cycle-II resulted in 14.08 MTOE energy savings, translating into avoiding about 68 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.

“Andhra Pradesh industries that fall under the PAT Scheme have contributed to a savings of 1.16 MTOE till PAT Cycle-3 by implementing energy efficiency measures. This helps in reducing energy intensity, production cost, and increasing productivity in industries. This was possible because of the efforts of the Designated Consumers, which is the best example for all other units in industrial sector to implement energy efficiency to reduce their energy consumption in their respective departments.” special chief secretary said.

He emphasized the need for creating awareness among the designated consumers on the PAT and capacity building of energy managers of industries to enhance their capability for effective utilization of energy adoption of EE equipment and EE measures in industries. He further said the state government has laid special emphasis on improving industrial energy efficiency apart from providing reliable, quality, and affordable power to industries in the state.

He said that the Chief Minister, Sri Y S. Jagan MohanReddy garu, and Energy Minister Sri Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy garu are keen on 24x7 quality, reliable, and affordable power supply for which energy efficiency will help by reducing the need for additional energy generation and enhancing the effective usage of energy. He thanked the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), GoI, for their support to APSECM in the effective implementation of the PAT scheme.

Addressing the gathering, CEO APSECM BAVP Kumara Reddy delivered the welcome note and briefed the energy efficiency program being implemented in the State particularly on PAT savings and ECBC mandate and energy conservation awareness programs.

Sri M Kamalakar Babu, MD Solar Power Corporation during his message thrown light on importance of energy efficiency in general including PAT scheme and national action plan for climate change. 

 

Sri Naveen Kumar, Senior Sector Expert, BEE, explained the participants about the Overview & Way forward of PAT scheme, including Carbon Market, PAT Rules, Obligations and Enforcement, ESCerts Trading and Related Activities, and Introduction of Helpdesk and Payment Gateways.

Energy managers and representatives of industries of Andhra Pradesh, Telanagana, Odisha from cement, textiles, power plants, fertilizers, Iron & Steel, thermal power plants, fertilizers, cement, aluminum, pulp and paper, iron and steel, textiles, and chlor-alkali participated in the workshop.
