Amaravathi: The Hon’ble Minister for Energy Sri Gottipati Ravi Kumar stated that Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO & Andhra Pradesh Power Development Company Limited) has achieved a historic milestone by recording 6160 MW of power generation and 5730 MW ex-bus generation, the highest ever since the Corporation’s inception.
During the virtual review with In-charge MD APGENCO & CMD APCPDCL Sri P Pulla Reddy and Directors of APGENCO Sri M Sujaya Kumar, P Ashok Kumar Reddy, Smt V Usha, APPDCL Director K Srinivasarao and CEs of APGENCO on Thursday, the Minister for Energy emphasized that maintaining high levels of power generation is crucial to meet the increasing electricity demand during the summer season and to ensure uninterrupted power supply to domestic, industrial, and commercial consumers. The government is also well prepared to meet the future electricity demand of the State. “Under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu, APGENCO has achieved this all-time record power generation. I wholeheartedly appreciate the power utilities and wish them to continue the same efforts,” said Energy Minister.
The Minister also directed the power utilities to remain fully prepared for the summer season, especially considering the possible impact of El Niño conditions, and emphasized that all necessary measures should be taken to ensure uninterrupted and reliable power supply to consumers across the State. He further added that the State power utilities successfully met the record power demand while maintaining stable transmission operations, and the achievement of record generation along with meeting peak demand is a positive indicator for the State’s economic growth and development.
The Minister said that this achievement reflects the dedicated efforts, technical expertise, and coordinated functioning of engineers, employees, station heads, and their teams, who have been working round the clock to ensure reliable power generation and meet the growing electricity demand across Andhra Pradesh. He directed that the Energy Department and power utilities should closely monitor demand trends, maximize available generation, and make advance arrangements to ensure uninterrupted power supply throughout the summer season.
He congratulated Special Chief Secretary to HCM & Special Chief Secretary Energy Sri K. Vijayanand, MD APGENCO Sri P. Pulla Reddy, and the teams of APGENCO and APPDCL for their commitment, professionalism, and hard work in achieving this significant milestone, and expressed confidence that they will continue their efforts to sustain and further enhance generation levels in the coming months.
The Energy Minister said that the Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu is taking several measures to protect consumers from increased electricity charges and to ensure reliable power supply. He further said that the government is also constructing a large number of substations to strengthen the power infrastructure and provide uninterrupted electricity across the State.
The Minister further stated that during the previous YSRCP government, APGENCO was weakened as power was excessively procured from private players. He alleged that electricity tariffs were increased nine times, imposing a burden of about Rs.32,000 crore on consumers. “In contrast, the present coalition government has taken corrective measures and implemented a 13 paise true-down, an unprecedented step in the history of the power sector, to reduce the burden on consumers.”, said Energy Minister
CEs of Rayalaseema Thermal Power Plant (RTPP), Dr.Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station (Dr.NTTPS) and other senior officials of APGENCO have participated in the virtual meeting.
