Online retailer Amazon has stated that it is likely to fire more than 18,000 employees amid the wave of layoffs by businesses. Amazon's workforce reduction now includes the elimination of more than 18,000 roles, according to a public staff note by Chief Executive Andy Jassy.

The e-commerce and human resources departments of the company will be significantly impacted by the layoffs. The business will start reaching out to affected staff on January 18th. 6% of Amazon's approximately 300,000-person corporate workforce, or 18,000 workers, will be let go. Annual planning "has been more difficult given the uncertain economy and the rapid hiring over the last several years," Jassy wrote in the note.

The layoffs will mostly affect the company's e-commerce and human-resources departments. The corporation will contact affected employees beginning January 18. The 18,000 layoffs represent 6% of Amazon's approximately 300,000-person corporate workforce. In the note, Jassy stated that annual planning "has been more difficult given the unpredictable economy and the increased hiring over the last several years."

The online retailer is prepared for weaker growth as rising inflation compels businesses and individuals to cut back on spending. Not just Amazon, but Salesforce also said on Wednesday that it wants to lay off around 10% of its workforce as part of a restructure. The corporation stated that it is facing an economic crisis as a result of hiring too many personnel. Salesforce co-CEO Marc Benioff stated in a message to workers, "The environment remains tough, and our clients are adopting a more careful approach to their purchasing decisions."
