Amaravati, April 14, 2025:
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu affirmed that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was a true warrior who fought tirelessly for Dalits and that the coalition government is committed to their upliftment and welfare, inspired by his ideals. He announced the reintroduction of the Ambedkar Overseas Education Scheme, enabling SC students to pursue education abroad once again. He emphasized that more residential schools would be set up to ensure quality education for SC children.
The CM stated that the previous rulers deliberately destroyed Amaravati, but with the blessings of the people, the city will be rebuilt into one of the greatest in the world. He made these remarks during the Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations held at Ponnekallu in the Tadikonda constituency.
*Ambedkar Showed the Way for Indian Democracy*
Born on April 14, 1891, in Mhow, Maharashtra, Dr. Ambedkar challenged deep-rooted discrimination, untouchability, and social injustice. He fought relentlessly for Dalit rights, securing water rights in 1927 and leading Dalits into the Kalaram Temple in 1930. Post-independence, he played a key role in the first cabinet and enshrined social justice, equality, and fundamental rights in the Constitution, which he considered a sacred text. Ambedkar was not a representative of any single group; he belonged to everyone.
*Dalit Welfare Through TDP*
Since its inception, the Telugu Desam Party has prioritized Dalit welfare. In 2002, the ‘Mundagudu’ initiative was launched, along with study centers for SC/ST students. Through the Ambedkar Overseas Education Scheme, the party has helped economically disadvantaged students study abroad. SC/ST students received up to ₹15 lakh in aid, while BC, EBC, Kapu, and minority students received ₹10 lakh. Around 7,000 students have benefited, with ₹467 crore spent overall. Between 2014–2019, 619 SC and 55 ST students were supported with ₹50 crore. The previous government only aided 430 students.
TDP introduced the SC Sub-Plan and allocated ₹1,300 crore for SC farmers, ₹130 crore for SCs in horticulture, ₹1,253 crore for housing, ₹1,200 crore for village development, and ₹478 crore under Jal Jeevan Mission. Currently, 2.35 lakh students reside in 1,241 SC welfare hostels, costing ₹1,331 crore. 21 lakh poor SC/ST families receive 200 units of free electricity.
Households with solar panels can sell excess electricity to the government at ₹2.09 per unit, earning around ₹2,500–₹3,000 annually. An additional ₹50,000 is provided to SC/ST families for house construction, with ₹780 crore allocated. Citing Ambedkar, the CM said societal progress is defined by the upliftment of the weakest. Following NTR’s vision, “The poor are gods, society is the temple,” the government is moving forward. By 2047, Andhra Pradesh aims to become the No. 1 state in India.
*Amaravati – A World-Class Capital*
Previous governments mocked Amaravati as a desert and crematorium, spreading hate in the name of three capitals. People have rejected those who incited caste, religious, and regional divisions. Now, world-class institutions are being invited to Amaravati, with SRM and VIT already operational. The government is committed to bringing more colleges and ensuring quality education.
*Freedom for the People Under NDA Rule*
“I gave my people not weapons, but the power to vote,” said Ambedkar. The recent election proved that Andhra Pradesh voters are brave, choosing good governance. Unlike the fear-ridden previous regime, today people are free. We witnessed an unprecedented “Super Six” initiative, providing strong support to the poor. Through the Deepam 2 scheme, three free LPG cylinders are given annually.
The NDA government prides itself on combining welfare, development, and good governance.
*Fighting Caste Discrimination*
TDP has battled caste-based discrimination since its inception. Through GO 694, special cells were formed at district, division, and mandal levels for SC/ST issues. Orders were issued for officials to visit villages weekly and register SC/ST atrocity cases against discriminators. Special courts were set up to handle these cases. TDP made history by appointing Dalit leaders like GMC Balayogi as Lok Sabha Speaker and Pratibha Bharati as Assembly Speaker.
The party also played a role in conferring Bharat Ratna to Ambedkar during NTR’s National Front presidency and had his portrait installed in Parliament under NDA. TDP also supported K.L. Narayanan (SP group) and Dr. Abdul Kalam for the presidency.
*Welfare for All Eligible Citizens*
The government aims to provide every household with piped water, free electricity, rooftop solar, internet, toilets, and own houses. In the past, there were no proper roads or schools. Today, government-private partnerships are thriving. Economic inequality must be curbed even as incomes grow.
*CM Interacts Virtually with Students Benefiting from the Scheme*
From the public stage, CM Chandrababu interacted virtually with students who pursued higher education abroad through the Ambedkar Overseas Education Scheme.
