Public Consultation on Electricity Tariffs Organized by APERC
The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) held a public consultation on the proposed Annual Revenue Requirements and Retail Tariffs for the financial year 2025-26. The event took place on Tuesday at a private function hall in Vijayawada, allowing individuals and organizations to participate both in person and via video conferencing.
APERC Chairman Thakur Ram Singh and Member P. Venkata Rami Reddy led the consultation, inviting the public to share their opinions, objections, suggestions, and recommendations on the proposed electricity tariffs. Chairman Thakur Ram Singh assured participants that every request, suggestion, and concern would be considered to make decisions that align with public interest.
During the session, officials from APCPDCL, APSPDCL, and APEPDCL presented their annual reports and proposals, including detailed slides, to provide clarity on their requirements and plans.

CPM State Leader Babu Rao criticized the continued imposition of true-up charges and demanded their removal, urging the government to fulfill its election promises of reducing tariffs and addressing the burden on the poor.
Retired electricity department official Punnarao suggested strengthening distribution companies to improve efficiency.
Jana Sena Leader Akkala Gandhi highlighted the environmental challenges faced by 20 villages near the VTPS plant and called for measures to curb pollution caused by the facility.
MCHS representative Venu Gopal Reddy demanded a reduction in electricity charges to alleviate the burden on consumers.
The consultation witnessed active participation from senior electricity department officials, representatives of the three distribution companies, and members of the public.
