Vijayawada, December 15, 2025: The Andhra Pradesh government plans to integrate Artificial Intelligence with existing health data to strengthen preventive care, predictive analysis and disease trend assessment, Health Secretary Saurabh Gaur said on Monday. He said the initiative will help improve healthcare delivery and enable early identification of disease severity in specific regions.
Gaur was speaking after a one day Regional Multi Stakeholder Convergence Workshop on the National AI Strategy for Health held in Vijayawada. The workshop was jointly organised by the World Health Organization, ICMR and the Government of India. Senior officials from the health and IT departments of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep participated.
Addressing the media along with Health Commissioner Veerapandian and other senior officials, Gaur said Andhra Pradesh is ahead in healthcare digitalisation through initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and electronic health records. He said the state aims to remain at the forefront in emerging technologies including AI, machine learning and large language models as envisioned by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav.
He said the central government is conducting zonal workshops across the country to prepare a national draft on AI usage in healthcare. Inputs from the Vijayawada workshop will be submitted to the Centre. The final draft is expected to be approved at the India AI Impact Summit in February after similar consultations in Mumbai, Delhi and the North East. States will then prepare their own AI implementation strategies based on the national framework.
WhatsApp governance and continuous care
The Health Secretary said Ayushman Bharat Health Account services will be integrated with Manamitra under WhatsApp governance to help citizens generate and access their health IDs easily. Continuous care services will be expanded through Sanjeevani using emerging technologies. He said Sanjeevani services are already operational in the Kuppam constituency, where patients receive guidance through outbound call centres on diagnostics and specialist consultations.
He said 297 applications were received under the Health Tech Innovation Challenge 2025 at the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub and are currently under evaluation for adoption.
Real time death alerts and disease surveillance
Health Commissioner Veerapandian said an online Death Alert system has been introduced to avoid delays in reporting fatalities from district to state level, following lessons from recent disease outbreaks. He said scrub typhus surveillance has been linked with RTGS Aware for real time disease tracking. Genome sequencing of samples is being carried out to identify disease sources accurately.
WHO Regional Adviser Karthik Adapa IAS explained the positive impact of AI integration in healthcare and sought suggestions from participants, stating that AI will play a central role in future health systems.
High level review on disease burden
Saurabh Gaur said the state is engaging international experts to address the burden of major diseases including cancer, hypertension, brain and heart related conditions. A high level committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu under the leadership of Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav will be held virtually on Tuesday to review preventive strategies and policy interventions.
