A New International Cricket Stadium in Amaravati: MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni)
Inauguration of the MPYL Cricket Tournament at ACA Cricket Stadium
Mangalagiri: Amaravati is soon to host another international cricket stadium, announced MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), President of the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA). He shared that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has issued directives for the construction of the new stadium while also upgrading the existing ACA International Cricket Stadium in Mangalagiri. This initiative aims to establish the capital region as a premier hub for sports.
On the occasion of IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh’s birthday, the "Pride of Mangalagiri" MPYL Season-3 state-level cricket tournament was inaugurated on January 12 at the ACA Cricket Stadium. The event will continue until January 23, featuring teams from all 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh, with the finals and prize distribution scheduled for the concluding day.
During the inauguration, MP Kesineni Sivanath was joined by dignitaries, including Andhra Pradesh Padmashali Welfare and Development Corporation Chairman Nandam Abaddayya, Guntur Parliamentary Secretary Pothineni Srinivas, and Andhra Pradesh Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation Chairman Chillapalli Srinivas Rao. They extended a warm welcome to the MP and expressed their enthusiasm for the tournament’s success.
MP Kesineni Sivanath emphasized the state government's efforts under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to foster sports development. He announced plans to establish two international cricket stadiums in the Amaravati region, modernize the Vizag stadium with a ₹50 crore budget, and set up cricket academies in Vizianagaram and Anantapur. The Vizianagaram academy is expected to open by January-end, while the women’s cricket academy in Anantapur is nearing completion.
He praised Minister Nara Lokesh for his commitment to developing Mangalagiri and fostering a sports culture among the youth. The MP highlighted Lokesh’s resilience, recalling how he overcame defeat in the 2019 elections to achieve a resounding victory in 2024. He encouraged young cricketers to emulate international cricketer Nitish Kumar Reddy and learn from setbacks to achieve success.
The ACA revealed plans to organize the APL tournament soon and aims to increase Andhra Pradesh's representation in the IPL, targeting 25 players in the near future. Currently, six players from Andhra Pradesh have been selected for the IPL.
Renovation work at the Mangalagiri Cricket Stadium has already begun, with plans to transform it into a multi-sport facility. The Vizag stadium’s modernization is expected to be completed by March, allowing it to host IPL matches, including two featuring the Delhi Daredevils. Additionally, infrastructure projects such as a four-lane railway overbridge near the Mangalagiri Stadium are set to be sanctioned in the upcoming budget.
The MP reiterated the ACA’s commitment to promoting sports by providing necessary facilities, distributing sports kits to 147 government schools in the NTR District, and organizing free cricket matches to inspire students. As part of Minister Nara Lokesh’s birthday celebrations, sports kits containing eight types of equipment will be distributed across schools.
Prominent leaders who participated in the event included Andhra Pradesh State Arya Vysya Sangham leader Sanka Balaji Gupta, TDP leaders Thota Partha Sarathi, Parvata Madhu, Munnangi Shiva Seshayya, Govada Durgarao, Munna Sheikh Riyaz, Mallavarapu Venkat, Arudra Bhulakshmi, Gosala Raghava, Jonnadula Balakrishna, Thota Pawan, Turaka Veera Sekhar, Kotha Srinivasa Rao, Rangishetti Peddabbai, and Jana Sena leader Munagapati Venkata Maruthi Rao, along with NDA coalition members and activists.
