Energy Minister directs Power Utilities to create awareness on the scheme for fast track penetration across the State

Vijayawada, 14-08-2024: As part of promoting and implementing Government of India scheme “PM - SURYA GHAR: MUFT BIJLI YOJANA” across the State of Andhra Pradesh, the Hon’ble Minister for Energy, Sri Gottipati Ravi Kumar has directed AP Power utilities to implement the GoI scheme in a large scale involving general public, Government departments and all stakeholders to make the scheme a success and achieve its objective.

During a meeting with APEPDCL, the Hon’ble Minister for Energy released a poster and leaflets on the scheme and said that the Government of India aims at installing rooftop solar plants in One Crore households, with a total financial outlay of Rs.75,021 Crore. “The Scheme will help to provide free/low cost electricity to 1 crore households up to 300 units of electricity per month by installation of roof top solar and boost local economy and employment generation along with enhanced energy security”, said Energy Minister.

Welcoming the GoI initiative “PM - SURYA GHAR: MUFT BIJLI YOJANA”, the Energy Minister directed Power Utilities for creating awareness on the scheme for fast track penetration across all the consumers of the State. The Energy Minister said the under the guidance of Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the State Government is committed to enhance renewable energy sources like Solar, Wind to meet the increasing energy demand and to achieve the national target to accelerate renewable energy capacity with a target to achieve 500 GW of installed electric capacity from non-fossil sources by 2030.

He appealed to all electricity consumers to take advantage of the scheme that would benefit households by availing a subsidy for installing the  solar panels and a loan facility at low interest rates without any collateral. “This initiative helps to reduce carbon emissions, contribute to environment conservation, and save natural resources for future generations. The initiative allows the beneficiary to save their electricity bills by installing  solar panels and the free electricity provided by the Government. Also, the beneficiaries can earn money through the sale of solar power to DISCOMS and save money on their electricity bills. Overall, it’s a great investment for environmental conservation and a better future”, said Energy Minister.

Stating that APEPDCL would achieve the objectives of the scheme with the continuous support and guidance of Hon’ble Energy Minister Sri Gottipati Ravi Kumar, Special Chief Secretary Energy, Sri K Vijayanand,  the Chairman and Managing Director of APEPDCL Sri I Prudhvi Tej explained the implementation methodology and said that any eligible consumer with valid customer service number with a distribution company shall avail the benefits of the scheme only through the PM Suryaghar portal and the Consumer is free to choose a vendor who is registered on the portal and can mutually decide with the vendor on the system installation.

CMD APEPDCL further explained that the consumer shall update the system details on the portal and concerned DISCOM shall conduct a physical inspection of the system installed and DISCOM will install a meter after roof top installation is completed and will sign the metering agreement with the consumer.

Explaining the Progress of APEPDCL as per PMSG portal, CMD APEPDCL said that total registrations made in PMSG portal are 149216 No’s, while applications submitted are 10493, out of which application fee were paid by 2122 No’s for 7208.50 KW and 723 No’s solar installations with 2783.37 KW capacity were completed.  As part of promoting the scheme, the details & link of the portal were displayed in Official website of APEPDCL for easy access to the Public.  “State level Coordination Committee’’ (SLCC) and District level Committee (DLC) are formulated for the overall monitoring/management of PM Suryaghar : Muft bijli yojana at state level & district level”, CMD APEPDCL said.

APEPDCL has conducted workshops and awareness programs with the empanelled vendors and with the Electrical contractors for capacity building.  APEPDCL has requested all the District Collectors to promote the scheme on wide range on raising consumer awareness among the residential consumers, communicating the PM Suryaghar guidelines. Further, Nodal Officers were appointed at Corporate Office level to Circle wise for monitoring the PM Suryaghar Scheme, CMD APEPDCL said.

For large scale implementation of the scheme, APEPDCL is going to conduct Circle level & district level awareness programs for the outreach of PM Suryaghar Scheme and Campaign through print, media & Social media handles. Special drives are programmed by the field officers for registrations of applications under PM Suryaghar Yojana along with Door to door campaigning programs with the spot billing meter readers, said CMD APEPDCL, Sri I Prudhvi Tej.
