Amaravati, December 29:Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Monday handed over a cheque of ₹1 crore as compensation to the family of Excise Department Head Constable Pitcheshwara Rao, who died in an accidental incident while on duty. The cheque was handed over to the beneficiary in the presence of SBI Regional Manager Surya Prakash and Assistant General Manager P. Ravi.

The compensation was sanctioned under the SBI insurance scheme being implemented as part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the State Government and the State Bank of India in March 2025. This marks the first instance of compensation being disbursed under the scheme since the agreement came into force.

Expressing deep condolences to the bereaved family, the Chief Minister assured them of the government’s full support and announced that compassionate appointment would be provided to an eligible family member.

Excise officials and association representatives thanked the Chief Minister for reorganising and revitalising the Excise Department within a short period after the formation of the government. They also appreciated the support extended for the department’s development by Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra and Chief Secretary Mukesh Kumar Meena.

Addressing Excise Department personnel, the Chief Minister urged them to work with dedication and uphold the government’s reputation. He emphasised that public health is more important than government revenue and advised officials to act accordingly.

Employee union leaders described the provision of valuable insurance benefits through the SBI SGSP salary account scheme for state government employees as highly commendable, noting that the scheme offers immediate financial security to the families of deceased employees.

The event was attended by Excise Commissioner Cherukuri Sridhar, Enforcement Director Rahul Dev Sharma, and Excise Officers’ Association leaders B. Narasimhulu, K. Kameswara Rao, Prabhakar Rao, Venkata Ramana, among others
