Vijayawada:Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu appealed to journalists to play a proactive role in development of Andhra Pradesh and Amaravati. He urged cooperation from journalists in countering false propaganda and maintaining credibility in information ecosystem.
The Chief Minister participated in 11th Plenary session of Indian Journalists Union (IJU) held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada today.
The Chief Minister stated that Amaravati will be developed as future city with next level technology and sought cooperation from journalists. He said the coalition government gives utmost importance to media, regularly reviewing news reports and taking necessary action on public issues highlighted by journalists.
He noted that media trends have undergone significant changes, expressing concern over the rise of misinformation and false reporting. He cited some instances where misleading narratives were created, emphasizing that such practices are harmful to society.
The Chief Minister condemned attempts to curb media freedom in the past regime by mentioning that restrictive measures like certain Government Orders were introduced earlier to control the press.
Chandrababu Naidu reiterated that his government is committed to be journalist-friendly.He identified social media as a major challenge, pointing out the rapid spread of misinformation.
Chandrababu Naidu emphasized the need to restore values and ethics in journalism.
He stated that the government encourages constructive and progressive journalism, rather than merely positive reporting.He urged media professionals to highlight peace, development and constructive change, while continuing to question the government responsibly.
The CM noted that journalists today have the freedom to question the government and assured continued support for press freedom.He called upon journalists to study and analyze the rapid development taking place in Andhra Pradesh and present it to the world.
He also informed that the State Assembly has passed a resolution seeking legal status for Amaravati as the capital and sent it to the Central Government.
Reiterating his vision, the Chief Minister described Amaravati as a Future City and said that remarkable development will be visible in the next five years.
Ministers K Parthasarathi and Nimmala Ramanaidu were present.
Earlier IJU president K Srnivasa Reddy, Secretary Somasundar and Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists president IV Subba Rao and other IJU leaders addressed the gathering.
