Amaravati: As part of the Swachh Andhra Vision–2047, Swachh Andhra Corporation Chairman Kommareddy Pattabhiram expressed strong dissatisfaction with the performance of agencies entrusted with conducting sanitation awareness and training programmes across the state.

On Friday, at his office in Amaravati, the Chairman held separate review meetings in the forenoon and afternoon with representatives of AIILSG (All India Institute of Local Self Government) and WASH Institute, to assess the progress of capacity building, information, education and communication (CB–IEC) programmes conducted so far.

AIILSG Regional Director V. Chalapathi Raj informed that training programmes are being conducted in three phases across 70 municipalities in 13 districts. He explained that trainees were divided into 12 categories and awareness activities were carried out in districts including Manyam, Vizianagaram, Krishna, Srikakulam, Chittoor, Bapatla, Nellore, Palnadu, NTR, Annamayya, Prakasam, Tirupati and Kadapa. So far, 4,562 participants were trained through 86 programmes in 42 municipalities, covering topics such as sanitation practices and complete elimination of plastic usage in municipalities and schools. Student competitions were also conducted with prizes awarded.

WASH Institute Director Shashank stated that under Swachh Andhra Vision–2047, training and awareness programmes are being implemented in 9 corporations, 38 municipalities and 10 urban panchayats across 13 districts. Trainees were grouped into 10 categories, from ward-level to corporation-level, and training was delivered through domain experts.

Chairman Pattabhiram’s Directions

Expressing serious dissatisfaction over the outcomes of training programmes conducted over the last four months, Chairman Pattabhiram cautioned agencies against indulging in superficial reporting and photo-based compliance. He stressed the need to focus on measurable results, stating that significant public funds are being spent and tangible outcomes must be visible.

He issued detailed directions to strengthen Swachh Andhra outreach by:

Assessing the actual level of understanding among trainees

Conducting post-training evaluations and tests, with prizes for high performers

Organising special cultural programmes through artists to spread sanitation messages

Engaging social media influencers through focused meetings

Involving hotel, trader and business associations in awareness drives

Leveraging universities, educational institutions, NSS, NCC, retired personnel and service organisations

Educating women on income generation through waste management practices

He instructed agencies to prepare robust future action plans backed by complete data and clear implementation strategies.

The review meetings were attended by Swachh Andhra Corporation COO Dasharatha Rami Reddy, AIILSG Project Manager C.H. Rajesh, Project Coordinator Dr. L. Venkateswara Rao, Nodal Officer A. Shivannarayana, and officials from the WASH Institute
