Vijayawada | December 24, 2025: He participated as chief guest at the State-level National Consumers Day celebrations held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada. The event was organised with the theme “Digital Governance for Efficient and Speedy Grievance Redressal.”
Dilli Rao said every consumer should develop the habit of questioning, as stated by philosopher Socrates, and understand the legal protections available to them. With advancements in technology and the rise of online services, new challenges are also emerging, especially related to e-commerce and cyber fraud, he said.
He explained key improvements in the Consumer Protection Act, including the facility to file complaints online from the consumer’s place of residence and the ability to attend hearings through video conferencing.
He highlighted platforms such as:
* E-Jagruti Portal – to file complaints and track case status
* BIS Care App – to lodge complaints on hallmarking and quality standards
He clarified that complaints must relate to goods or services purchased for personal use, not for commercial purposes. He added that if a Consumer Commission does not respond within 21 days, the complaint will be treated as accepted.
Civil Supplies Commissioner R. Govind Rao said Andhra Pradesh has successfully enforced mandatory 1 mg precision standards in jewellery shops and stressed the need to increase consumer awareness levels.
District Collector Dr. G. Lakshmisha said everyone in society is a consumer and awareness of rights must begin at the school level, especially in the era of increasing digital fraud.
BIS Director Prem Sajani Patnala and Legal Metrology officers addressed the programme, urging citizens to question malpractice and use available digital redressal systems.
A poster on consumer awareness was released on the occasion, and officials, students, NGOs and department representatives participated.
