Minister Nara Lokesh’s Initiatives Enhance Standards in Government Junior Colleges
The commitment of Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh to transform government junior colleges on par with private institutions is yielding remarkable results. Since he assumed office as Education Minister, the performance of government junior colleges has witnessed a significant transformation. The results achieved by students in the Intermediate examinations are a testament to this change. This year, the pass percentage of Intermediate students has increased to a record level — a feat not seen in the last ten years. This remarkable improvement is a direct result of the quality-enhancing measures taken by Minister Nara Lokesh.
Unprecedented Growth in Pass Percentage Over a Decade
Government junior colleges have seen an exceptional rise in student pass percentages — the highest in the last decade. In the Intermediate second year, a record-breaking 69% of students passed, which is the highest in ten years. In the Intermediate first-year examinations, 47% of students passed — the second-highest percentage in the decade.
Looking at the overall results of both government and private institutions:
In the Intermediate first year, a record 70% of students passed.
In the second year, an even higher 83% pass percentage was recorded.
By district performance:
Parvathipuram Manyam district recorded the highest pass percentage in the first year with 70%, while Visakhapatnam district had the lowest at 34%.
In the second year, 81% of students passed in Parvathipuram Manyam, while Visakhapatnam again recorded the lowest with 55%.
Record-Level Success in Intermediate Vocational Courses
Students in vocational streams have also achieved record pass rates compared to the last ten years.
In the Intermediate Vocational first year, 64% of students passed — the highest in a decade.
In the second year, a record-breaking 82% pass percentage was achieved — again, the highest in the past ten years.
Significant Reforms in Government Junior Colleges Under Minister Lokesh
After Nara Lokesh took charge as Education Minister, significant reforms have taken place in government junior colleges, leading to improved student outcomes in Intermediate examinations.
During the previous YSRCP government, schemes such as free textbooks and mid-day meals for Intermediate students were canceled. Upon assuming office, Nara Lokesh reintroduced these under new initiatives:
Free textbooks and notebooks are now being provided under the "Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Vidyarthi Mitra" scheme.
The Dokka Seethamma Mid-Day Meal Scheme was implemented for Intermediate students.
In 2024, 217 principals received promotions after a gap of five years.
Centralized assessment was introduced from October 2024.
Teachers' performance is now reviewed based on student performance in internal assessments.
College hours were extended from 9 AM to 5 PM.
A 100-day program was launched to support academically weaker students by categorizing them and providing study material.
Three Parent-Teacher Meetings were held annually, and progress cards were distributed to all students.
A WhatsApp group was created to provide regular syllabus updates to parents.
A "Take Care" system was implemented to monitor students' academic progress and attendance.
