Vijayawada, March 13:Andhra Pradesh Minister for Prohibition and Excise Kollu Ravindra urged newly recruited officers to discharge their duties with dedication and commitment while serving the public.
The minister handed over appointment letters to 150 newly selected Prohibition and Excise Sub-Inspectors at a programme organised by the Prohibition and Excise Department at the NAC Convention Centre in Vijayawada.
Congratulating the recruits, Ravindra said the induction of 150 Sub-Inspectors, including 38 women, into a cadre strength of 550 officers was a significant step in strengthening the department. He noted that the coalition government has been taking steps to provide employment opportunities soon after assuming office, including initiating the recruitment of 16,347 posts through the Mega DSC.
The government aims to generate employment opportunities for 20 lakh people in the coming years, he added.
The minister stated that the Excise Department, established in 1856, plays a crucial role in protecting public health and contributing to state revenue. He advised the newly appointed officers to thoroughly understand excise laws and policies to effectively carry out their responsibilities.
Ravindra alleged that irregularities amounting to nearly ₹3,500 crore had taken place in the department over the past five years, which had weakened its functioning.
‘Navodaya’ Programme to Curb Illicit Liquor
The minister announced that the ‘Navodaya’ programme would be relaunched across the state to eliminate illicit liquor, with strict implementation in all districts.
He also directed officials to take strong action against spurious liquor that threatens public health and to act as a bridge between the government and the people while addressing challenges at the field level.
Enforcement Director Rahul Dev Sharma said the department has great expectations from the newly recruited officers and advised them to gain a clear understanding of relevant laws during training. He encouraged them to work diligently and develop familiarity with emerging technologies.
Excise Commissioner Chamakuri Sridhar said the officers must ensure the supply of safe liquor to the public while simultaneously preventing the circulation of illicit liquor.
Additional Commissioner Anasuya Devi, Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, excise officials, and others were present at the event.
