Vijayawada, March 28: A NITI Aayog delegation met Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand at the CS camp office in Vijayawada on Friday to discuss the strategic roadmap to be brought in the energy sector in the state. In this meeting, they discussed the issues to be taken to formulate a strategic roadmap for cost-effective energy transition.Speaking on this occasion, CS Vijayanand explained to the NITI Aayog delegation the steps being taken by the Andhra Pradesh government to achieve Net Zero targets in the state by 2047. In particular, he said that under the 2024 Integrated Clean Energy Policy, it has been targeted to establish renewable energy capacity of more than 160 gigawatts (GW). The state government is taking major steps for the development of renewable energy sources, as part of which solar, wind power generation and green hydrogen power generation The CS explained that efforts are being made to attract large investments in various sectors and set up several projects.
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Integrated Green Hydrogen Production Project by NTPC and NREDCAP JV near Visakhapatnam. CS Vijayanand informed the NITI Aayog team that Green Hydrogen Production & Electrolyzer Manufacturing by Greenco Group in Kakinada, Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) with a capacity of over 6,000 MW are under development by AP Genco itself and through JV with Central Public Sector Undertaking NHPC, CS Vijayanand told the NITI Aayog team.
The NITI Aayog team briefed the CS on the services being provided by NITI Aayog to the Government of Maharashtra under the Energy Transition Plan and the steps being taken by the State Government. NITI Aayog has come forward to support Andhra Pradesh in achieving the potential of cost-effective energy transition.
Similarly, NITI Aayog has come forward to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to fully support the State in achieving the Net Zero target by 2047 and achieving a cost-effective energy transition.
