On January 23, 2025, Minister Nara Lokesh, National General Secretary of the Telugu Desam Party, and prized son of a proud father, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, celebrates his 42nd birthday. Lokesh has emerged as a pivotal figure in Andhra Pradesh's political landscape, earning respect for his innovative vision, dedication to public welfare, and resilience in the face of challenges. His leadership symbolizes a promising future for the Sunrise State.

A Legacy of Vision and Education

Born into the illustrious Nara family, Lokesh was raised amidst an environment of public service. As the grandson of the legendary ex-CM Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR), Lokesh inherited a rich political legacy and a commitment to serving the people. NTR's transformative leadership and Chandrababu Naidu's administrative excellence have profoundly influenced Lokesh's vision for Andhra Pradesh.

After completing his undergraduate studies in Management Information Systems at Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA from Stanford University, Lokesh returned to India equipped with world-class education and a passion for transforming Andhra Pradesh.

Before stepping into active politics, Lokesh successfully contributed to the growth of Heritage Foods, a family enterprise. His entry into public life in 2014 as the General Secretary of the TDP marked the beginning of his commitment to addressing the state's developmental challenges.

Transformative Leadership as Minister

Nara Lokesh currently serves as Andhra Pradesh's Minister of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, and Human Resources Development. His tenure has been defined by transformative policies and an emphasis on innovation.

During his earlier term as Minister of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development (2017–2019), Lokesh implemented groundbreaking reforms that earned him accolades like the Panchayat Raj Innovation Award. He also drove advancements in rural sanitation, drinking water, and digital governance, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a model state in rural development.

In his current role, Lokesh has focused on leveraging technology to create opportunities for youth, attract global investments, and make Andhra Pradesh a hub for technological excellence. His initiatives have revitalized the IT sector, fostered employment opportunities, and positioned the state as a leader in digital transformation.

Resilience Amid Challenges: The Mangalagiri Journey

In 2019, Lokesh contested the Mangalagiri assembly seat but faced defeat. Instead of being discouraged, he took this as an opportunity to redouble his efforts. Lokesh remained actively involved with the people of Mangalagiri, addressing their issues and initiating developmental projects.

This unwavering commitment bore fruit in 2024, when Lokesh contested the Mangalagiri seat again and secured a landslide victory, winning by over 90,000 votes. His journey highlights his resilience, perseverance, and ability to turn setbacks into stepping stones for success.

Connecting with People: Yuva Galam Padayatra

A defining chapter of Lokesh's political journey is the Yuva Galam Padayatra, during which he walked over 4,000 kilometres across Andhra Pradesh. This remarkable feat demonstrated his determination to understand the ground realities and engage directly with citizens. By listening to their concerns and aspirations, Lokesh earned the trust and admiration of people from all walks of life.

A Leader for the Digital Age

Lokesh is known for his accessibility and innovative use of digital platforms. An active presence on X (formerly Twitter), he has used social media to address grievances, share updates, and engage with the public. His willingness to assist anyone in need, even members of the opposition, reflects his inclusive approach to governance.

Under his leadership, the Telugu Desam Party achieved a historic milestone in 2024, surpassing one crore members in Andhra Pradesh. This achievement underscores his ability to mobilize and inspire people, particularly the youth, to participate in the state's political process.

Awards and Recognition

Lokesh's contributions to governance and technology have earned him several accolades. These include the "Digital Leader of the Year" award by Business World in 2018 and the Skoch Person of the Year award, recognizing his efforts to leverage technology for social and economic development.

Carrying Forward a Legacy of Excellence

As the grandson of NTR and the son of Chandrababu Naidu, Lokesh has embraced the responsibility of carrying forward his family's rich political legacy. NTR's revolutionary reforms and Chandrababu Naidu's futuristic vision continue to inspire Lokesh's endeavours. His work reflects the values of integrity, innovation, and inclusivity that define the TDP's ethos.

Poised to play a larger role in Andhra Pradesh's political future, Lokesh is widely regarded as a natural successor to his father's leadership. His dedication to the welfare of the people, coupled with his progressive vision, positions him as a transformative leader for the years to come.

A Bright Future for Andhra Pradesh

On his 42nd birthday, Nara Lokesh's journey serves as an inspiration to aspiring leaders and a testament to the power of resilience and commitment. His contributions to Andhra Pradesh's growth and development are paving the way for a brighter future. As the Sunrise State continues its march toward progress, Lokesh's leadership promises to guide it to new heights.

On behalf of the Editors Guild of South India, President Deeksha Prasad extends warm wishes to Nara Lokesh, wishing him a long life and continued success in all his political endeavours.
