With the NDA government assuming office, a new chapter has begun in the development of tribal areas. The state government is working tirelessly to bring progress and light into the lives of tribal communities in the agency districts. Fulfilling its promises, the government is striving to elevate agency regions to the same level of development as plains areas. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will attend the International Tribal Day celebrations in Paderu on August 9. This year, the United Nations has called for the observance of International Tribal Day with the theme "Indigenous Peoples and Artificial Intelligence – Defending Rights, Shaping the Future." In line with this, the state government is organizing the event in Paderu, Alluri Sitarama Raju District.
The Chief Minister will first visit the Modakondamma Temple and then participate in traditional tribal ceremonies. He will interact with tribal families to understand their challenges first hand. Later, he will engage with coffee plantation growers and attend a public meeting at Lagisapalle. During the event, the CM will lay the foundation for development projects in tribal areas and govt will sign some of the MoUs related to these initiatives.
Development Projects in Tribal Areas
The government has accelerated road construction projects to connect remote tribal habitations with major hubs and plains regions. A total of ₹2,404 crores has been allocated to build roads and bridges, ensuring connectivity for over 2,075 tribal villages in the next five years. In Alluri Sitarama Raju District, road corridors worth ₹41 crores will be developed.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the government has initiated works worth ₹2,373 crores to provide clean drinking water to 13,816 tribal habitations, aiming for completion by 2026. Additionally, multi-specialty hospitals will be constructed in ITDA regions like Sitampeta, Parvatipuram, Rampachodavaram, KR Puram, and Srisailam, with ₹50 crores allocated for each facility. The medical college in Paderu is also progressing rapidly.
To support tribal youth in competitive exams, the government has established study circles in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati, and other areas. Residential school buildings are being converted into hostels with an allocation of ₹150 crores, benefiting over 520 schools. A high-level bridge over the Nagavali River between Purrnapadu and Komarada will be constructed at a cost of ₹10 crores.
The government is also promoting Araku coffee as a global brand by expanding plantations and setting up processing units, with an investment of ₹202 crores. Tourism projects are being launched to create employment opportunities for tribal youth.
Tribal Welfare – The Government’s Priority
The state government is committed to tribal welfare. In the 2024-25 fiscal year, ₹7,557 crores have been allocated under the Scheduled Tribe Component. Free electricity up to 200 units per month is being provided to 4.82 lakh tribal families across the state. Solar rooftop installations will soon be implemented in tribal areas.
Under the NTR Bharosa scheme, ₹1,595 crores are being disbursed monthly to 3,77,051 tribal beneficiaries. The Talliki Vandanam scheme has credited ₹642 crores into the accounts of 4,86,803 tribal students’ mothers.
The government has launched Mission-2047 to eradicate sickle cell anaemia, identifying 1,487 patients and providing them with ₹10,000 per month. Efforts are also underway to promote natural farming and alternative crops to discourage ganja cultivation in remote tribal areas.
The NDA government remains steadfast in its mission to ensure the holistic development and welfare of tribal communities across the state.
